Our Story

How Mediante Came to Be

Mediante began in Chiang Mai from a straightforward observation: many families in northern Thailand were navigating difficult conversations without a quiet, structured space to learn the skills those conversations require. Not counselling, not legal support — simply a thoughtful place to develop language, patience, and practical frameworks for everyday family life.

The organisation was founded in 2019 by a small group of educators and facilitators with backgrounds in communication studies and family sociology. They wanted to create a setting where adults could sit with difficult questions, explore them at a comfortable pace, and leave with something genuinely useful. No rushing, no advice-giving, no prescribed outcomes.

Over the years, Mediante has grown through word of mouth among Chiang Mai's English-speaking community, international families, and Thai families with bilingual members. The sessions have been refined through participant feedback, and the core commitment has remained unchanged: offer clear, non-directive education that respects every person's ability to make their own decisions.

Our Mission

Why We Do What We Do

Our mission is to make structured communication learning accessible to families in Thailand who want to approach their relationships with greater intentionality. We work only in the educational and informational space, and we are careful never to cross into professional services that require formal credentials or licences.

Every programme we offer is designed so that participants carry something away they can use independently — a worksheet, a framework, a set of questions to explore at home. The aim is to reduce dependence on outside input, not to create it.

We hold a particular appreciation for the calm, considered approach that many in northern Thailand's culture bring to interpersonal matters. Our sessions are shaped by that sensibility — unhurried, respectful, and oriented around reflection rather than resolution.

How We Work

Our Standards and Commitments

Mediante is committed to running sessions that are clearly scoped, personally respectful, and well-prepared. These are the principles that guide how each programme is delivered.

Educational Scope Clarity

Every session is introduced with a clear explanation of what it does and does not cover. Participants always know they are receiving educational content, not advice or professional services.

Participant Privacy

No personal details shared by participants are discussed outside the session. Group settings follow clear confidentiality guidelines. Enrolment data is managed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Structured Materials

All programmes use prepared written materials — worksheets, templates, and session outlines — reviewed for clarity and relevance before each new intake of participants.

Small Group Size

Sessions are kept small to maintain a calm, unhurried environment. Group sizes are limited to ensure every participant has room to engage without feeling observed or pressured.

Continuous Programme Review

Facilitators collect feedback after each programme and use it to improve session pacing, materials, and format. Content is reviewed periodically to remain current and relevant.

Culturally Considerate Delivery

Programmes are designed with awareness of the values and communication norms that matter in Thailand. Facilitators adapt their approach to suit the mix of backgrounds represented in each group.

What We Stand For

The Values That Shape Every Session

Voluntary Participation

Mediante operates on the principle that learning is only meaningful when people choose it freely. No participant is ever directed or pushed. The pace of every session follows the group, not a fixed agenda, and individuals are always welcome to observe without contributing.

Non-Directive Facilitation

Our facilitators do not tell participants what to do, how to feel, or what outcome to pursue. Their role is to introduce frameworks, ask open questions, and hold a steady structure. The participants bring their own situations, and they leave with their own conclusions.

Respect for Each Family's Path

Every family in Mediante's sessions is in a different place — geographically, emotionally, and practically. Programmes are built to acknowledge this diversity without making assumptions. Materials are written to be relevant across many different circumstances and family structures.

Practical Over Abstract

Junto with reflection, each session ends with something tangible. A worksheet, a checklist, a planning template — something the participant can take home and use. Education that does not connect to everyday life tends not to stay with people. We keep that in mind when we design every programme.
